User Experience Design Essentials for Managers is a one or two day course on user experience design from the management point of view. In contrast to UX Design Essentials, this course focuses on the business value of great design, developing design thinking, leading and influencing a design team, effective teamwork, and fostering a great design culture.

Hosting UX Design Essentials for Managers at your company will give your managers the essential, practical knowledge they need to lead and influence their teams to create great user experiences.

Two-day format

Day 1 (8:30 am — 5:30 pm

  • Part 1: Where are you now?
  • Part 2: A business case for a great user experience
  • Part 3: The design process and the classic mistakes
  • Part 4: What is managing great design so hard?
  • Part 5: Fostering a great design culture
  • Part 6: User-centered design
  • Part 7: Making it intuitive
  • Part 8: Making it simple
  • Part 9: A manager’s guide to visual design

Day 2 (8:30 am — 5:00 pm

  • Part 10: Effective sketching and prototyping
  • Part 11: How to evaluate a UI
  • Part 12: Effective design reviews and rules
  • Part 13: Designers, roles and responsibilities, and team dynamics
  • Part 14: Product design review workshop (afternoon)
  • Part 15: Wrapup

One-day format

Day 1 (8:30 am — 5:30 pm

What is the cost?

$10,000 per team (for two days) or $5,000 (for one day), plus travel expenses.

Does the course have hands-on exercises?

Yes. Each section has a 10 – 20 minute exercise. The exercises are either group discussions or design review situations. The Product Design Review Workshop in the two-day format takes the entire afternoon of the second day.

We have specific challenges that we need help with. Can we customize the course to address them?

Yes! We can do limited customization to the course materials for the onsite course for no additional charge, including customizing the exercises. There’s no better way to satisfy your management team’s goals than to apply the exercise material directly to the problems you need to solve. We can also add a third day to address your specific needs with custom course material, design reviews, or design workshops.

How large are the classes?

Classes are limited to a maximum of 20 participants.

What materials are provided?

All participants receive an electronic copy of the course materials in pdf format for their personal use. All participants who complete the class will receive a certificate of completion.
