User Experience Design Essentials for Managers is a one-day course on user experience design from the management point of view (additional days are possible). In contrast to the standard Essentials course, this course focuses on the business value of great design, developing design thinking, leading and influencing a design team, effective teamwork, and fostering a great design culture.

Hosting UX Design Essentials for Managers at your company will give your management team the essential, practical knowledge it needs to create great user experiences that your customers will love.

Course begins at 8:30 am, concludes at 5:00 pm

  • Course introduction
  • Part 1: A business case for a great user experience
  • Part 2: Why great design is so hard
  • Part 3: The design process and the classic mistakes
  • Part 4: Understanding user-centered design
  • Part 5: How to make it intuitive, simple, and delightful
  • Part 6: Effective prototyping
  • Part 7: How to evaluate a UI
  • Part 8: Design reviews: how to give effective feedback
  • Part 9: Fostering a great design culture

Each section has a 10 – 20 minute exercise. The exercises are either group discussions or design review situations.

A two-day version is also available, which covers more topics in more depth, plus has more exercises.

What is the cost?

$10,000 per team (for two days) or $5,000 (for one day), plus travel expenses.

Does the course have hands-on exercises?

Yes. Each section has a 10 – 20 minute exercise. The exercises are either group discussions or design review situations.

We have specific challenges that we need help with. Can we customize the course to address them?

Yes! We can do limited customization to the course materials for the onsite course for no additional charge, including customizing the exercises. There’s no better way to satisfy your management team’s goals than to apply the exercise material directly to the problems you need to solve. We can also add a second or even third day to address your specific needs with custom course material.

How large are the classes?

Classes are limited to a maximum of 20 participants.

What materials are provided?

All participants receive an electronic copy of the course materials in pdf format for their personal use. All participants who complete the class will receive a certificate of completion.
